Jaffna Hindu College dominate drawn game
View(s):7th Battle of HindusJaffna Hindu College dominated their drawn 7th ‘Battle of the Hindus’ big match encounter against tradition rivals Hindu College Bambalapitiya which concluded at Jaffna yesterday.
The second day’s proceedings saw Hindu College Bambalapitiya make a grand recovery through their overnight pair of G. Dinesh and K. Pavithran. The duo put on a valuable 103 run partnership for the sixth wicket before they were separated with the dismissal of Pavithran for 30.
Dinesh was unfortunate to miss out on a ton as he was forced to watch losing his partners at the other end before being last dismissed for a knock of 83 that included 11 boundaries and a six which saw them end their innings making 274. The opening day’s play saw Jaffna Hindu College taking first lease of the wicket was helped by useful knocks from M. Thuvaragan, E. Ganeshwaran and K. Nikesh.
They were given a sound start by openers Ganeshwaran and J. Girethaganesh who together put on 73 runs. This was followed by a 62-run stand for the second wicket between Girethaganesh and Nikesh and later in the innings by L. Sivaluxsan and Y. Vithusan in another valuable stand of 63 runs for the sixth wicket which helped them make a formidable score of 296 for 9 declared.
Later in the day Hindu College Jaffna in their turn too were given a solid start of 50 runs by their openers S. Sheron and B. Udeeshan but they lost two quick wickets and slipped to 63 for 3 before a valuable 62-run stand for the fourth wicket between N. Ashan and skipper S. Mathusan enabled them to end day one with a score of 145 for 5.
Meanwhile Hindu College Bambalapitiya bagged three of the four awards with Dinesh Ganapathi taking the best batsman and man of the award and Vishvajith Sundrampillai the best fielder while L. Sivalasan of Jaffna Hindu College took the best bowlers award.
