Waters Edge Battaramulla is aiming to transform its hotel facility into a US$ 500 million revenue generating entity by 2030.  The hotel will be expanded with an investment of Rs. 13 billion, said Chamath De Silva, Chairman of the hotel. He made this statement at the opening of the ‘Project Implementing and Monitoring Office’ at the hotel premises in Battaramulla last Wednesday. Mr. Silva said, “This is the first phase of our vision to transform Waters Edge into a US$ 500 million revenue generating entity by 2030”.

Adding to that, Mr. Silva stated that the hotel will soon call for tenders for construction of the project while the architects have been chosen already to commence the project. Waters Edge General Manager Rohan Fernandopulle said that there will be 15 individuals working at this newly set up unit at the hotel. The initial planning of the project was done by the previous regime, but no steps were taken to implement it. But after Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka took the initiative the first step was to set up this unit. “If everything goes well, this will be one of the first projects under the Megapolis,” said Mr. Fernandopulle.

The planned 5-star mega mix development property is inclusive of 182 hotel rooms, 75 service apartments and 125 residencies with luxury amenities and state-of-the-art conference and convention facilities. In addition, Waters Edge will also construct a sports complex in 12 acres of land, hosting 40 different sports to induce community wellbeing.
Newly appointed Director of Projects, Kumar de Silva who has over 45 years of experience as a civil and structural engineer, said, “Although it was said that the building will take three years for completion, we can positively say that it will finish a lot sooner.” This project is only a beginning of a vast expansion under the Megapolis vision, he added.
