View(s):A letter to a dear teacher
My dear Nishanthi Teacher,
(Year 4A, Horizon College)
I kindly inform you that I have
left to a new school in Colombo.
Since everything happened during the December holidays, I couldn’t inform you or say goodbye. I wanted to tell you that I won a book from the book competition in the Funday Times for the second time. It is an interesting book named ‘MilkRice’.
When I got to know about changing my first school, I felt very sad to leave you, my friends, and my dear teachers. All of you were very nice to me. The teachers taught me so very well and made me strong to face challenges. I still hear your voices calling me. I am thankful to all the teachers at Horizon College and wish it to be one of the best schools in future.
Zahira College, Colombo too is a good school. The teachers here too are very good and kind. My new class teacher is Mrs. Preena Mafoosa. She too is kind as you.
I miss my friends at Horizon College. Please convey my regards to them. Ask them to study well. I have some good friends here too. I shall come to see all of you soon.
God Bless You!

Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was one of the greatest scientists in the world. He was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy. His father was a musician so Galileo also played musical instruments very well. His parents wanted him to become a doctor but he loved mathematics and became the Professor of Mathematics at the University of Pisa.
He invented and discovered many scientific instruments like the Thermometer, Calculator and the Hydrostatic Balance. His greatest achievement was the invention of the Telescope. He used it to look at the universe and study about the stars and planets.
He discovered that the earth orbited around the sun and not the sun around the earth, as was believed at that time. A copy of his telescope can be seen even today at NASA.
He died on January 8, 1642 leaving new discoveries to the future. When I grow up, I will be a great scientist like him and serve my country.

My trip to the museum
On January 8, 2016 we went on a trip to the museum. My partner was Chemithri Senevirathne. At 8.30 we departed from school and we arrived by 8.45 a.m. First we saw Lord Buddha’s pictures and we saw some statues made out of clay. Then we went and saw some Sinhala words, Tamil words and Arabic words. Then we went and saw King Wimaladharmasuriya’s golden chair, leg stool, sword and many other famous kings’ guns too.
Later we went to a section called
‘Sri Lankan Culture’. There we saw people made out of clay who were farming, cooking and doing their work in the fields with their bulls. Later we went and saw the animals. There we saw real peacock feathers stuck into a clay peacock, deer, fighting cheetahs, lizards and snakes inside a box and we saw a real whale skeleton. Then we saw a huge coral and on the other side we saw a baby goat with two heads, one body, two tails, four ears and eight legs.
Finally we saw the old traditional clothes of the British, Muslim, Sinhala and Tamil people. Then we came to see the famous artist Andrew’s paintings and then we had some lunch. Later we played a little before getting into the bus to go back to school. It was the most wonderful and exciting trip I ever had.

A recent day out to Nuwara Eliya
One sunny morning, I was eating my breakfast leisurely. Suddenly Aro, one of my friends came to me and said, “It seems that our team is going on a day out to Nuwara Eliya. Are you joining too for that trip?” It was a marvellous idea and I said, “Yes, of course. Is there a trip without me? Ha ha! I’m coming.”
I asked permission to go to Nuwara Eliya from my parents. They agreed. I was so happy now. Next morning, I woke up and got prepared for the day out. I got my back pack, worshipped the Buddha and my parents. I got into the van which was waiting for me.
As we were travelling, we sang songs, watched videos and played games. We stopped at Pelmadulla and ate our breakfast. Then again we got to go. Finally, we were at Nuwara Eliya and it was icy-chilly there. I liked that climate very much.
First we went to see Hakgala Gardens. We saw lots of trees, flowers. Then we went to see the Adisham Bungalow, Ambewela Farm and the strawberry farm. Lastly, we stopped at Gregory Park for lunch. It was nearly 2 p.m., and it was boiling hot. We had our lunch and went back to our homes.
We enjoyed this day out very much and I loved it.

Animals
Animals are all over the world. They make the surroundings beautiful. Most of the animals live in jungles.
We call them wild animals. Animals such as dogs, cats, goats, cows and hens are domestic animals because they live with us.
Animals that live in the water are called water animals. Fish, crab, octopus are some of them. According to their eating habits, they are grouped into three categories. They are herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. Most of the animals are helpful.
