Fired-up Lahiru Nishantha puts Wadduwa Central in box seat
The 2nd Battle of the River Kalu encounter between Wadduwa Central College and Gnanodaya Maha Vidyalaya is heading for an early finish today at the Panadura Esplanade.
Wadduwa Central dominated the first day’s play when they posted a massive 304 for the loss of seven wickets (49 overs) and skittled out the Kalutara school for 29 in the first innings with Lahiru Nishantha’s figures reading as 5-3-2-4.
Wadduwa Central skipper Shehan Dilshan Weeraratne led from the front by scoring a hard hit 113 off 95 deliveries which consisted of 14 hits that crossed the line and two hits over the line to become the first centurion of the series.
Being forced to follow on the Kalutara lads again found Nishantha too hot to handle and ended the day losing four wickets for 40 runs when bad light stopped play. The lanky pace bowler accounted for all four wickets that fell in a fiery spell of 5.5-3-8-4 giving him a match bag of 8 for 10 runs so far.
