‘Sinha Wisea’ Cricketers sing for their Cup
‘Sinha Wisea’ (lion’s roar) is the latest World Cup song to hit the Sri Lankan air waves. Produced by popular singer Yashan de Silva, this ‘2016 World Cup’ song was released last week and it was an overnight hit. The unique feature of this song is, apart from the popular singers in the music scene, eight Sri Lankan ‘Twenty 20 World Cup’ team members have rendered their voice to the latest hit.
Namely, Dinesh Chandimal, Chamara Kapugedara, Milinda Siriwardana, Dushmantha Chameera, Dasun Shanaka, Kithruwan Withanage, Madawa Warnapura and Niroshan Dickwella teamed up with Lantra Perera of the ‘Doctor Band’, Nadini Premadasa, Rainie Gunathileke, Funky Dirt and Yashan de Silva in singing this World Cup song.
The lyrics of the song were penned by Sandun Perera and the music direction was handled by Shenal Maddumage.
The Music video was directed by Gamini Chamara and edited by the crew of the Digital Eye Studio headed by Upul Chandana.
‘The song ‘Sinha Wisea’ was crated to uplift the enthusiasm and cricketing spirits of the players and also the fans of Sri Lanka Cricket’ said producer Yashan.
‘The song was shot in two locations. The main scenes were filmed on a set created at ‘The LEAF’ in Nugegoda and the rest was done at the Shenal’s recording studio at Havelock road. TVT contacted Yashan for a chat about the latest product.
Why did you include cricketers on this?
Well we have seen so many cricket songs by musicians over the years but I think this is the very first time a large number of current team members involved in singing just one song. Most of their fans have never seen cricketers signing on the mic. So I thought of reaching out that extra mile to make the difference. Honestly, I knew it from the very beginning that it’s going to be a big challenge to list them all together in one song. But most of the cricketers loved the idea and they really did put in their maximum effort on this.
How long did it take to complete this project?
Me and Shenal were working on this since last year. I explained him my idea and requested him to come with a catchy beat with a simple tune so that anyone could easily get on with it and be a part of it. I think it took almost three months for us to complete both the audio and the video production.
How was the feedback so far for ‘Sinha Wisea’?
Absolutely amazing. We as musicians have experienced this kind of feedback before but it’s a new and a different experience for cricketers. They applaud and received comments for their musical talent and all of them are overjoyed. I must say, their spirits are really high. And that’s what I exactly wanted to do by featuring them on this song. I am pretty sure that they will rock India in the 2016 World Cup tournament.
How was it like to record the song and film the video with cricketers?
Except for Madawa Warnapura, (I have already produced a solo track call ‘Muthu Paradana’ for him) it was the very first time for all of the other cricketers on the microphone. But they did a fantastic job. Their passion and commitment towards this project was so high despite them had their practices and matches almost everyday.
Do you want to mention anything special?
I am grateful for Dr. Namal Balachandra of ‘Wills Design’ for his exclusive outfits and for all his support. Vimukthi Dharshana for his creative set design in double quick time and most importantly, I would like to thank all the cricketers other musicians who featured on this video to make it a success.
