Behold the designer brides
View(s):Kingsbury Hotel’s Balmoral Ballroom was turned into a gala bridal fiesta recently when the leading names and some emerging talent in the bridal industry got together to showcase their wedding collections at the recent Designer Wedding Show 2016 held in late February.
An event much anticipated by the young couples planning to tie the knot, the Designer Wedding Show organised by the Bride and Groom Magazine provides a platform for talented local wedding professionals- the bridal designers and hair and make up artistes to unveil their creative design skills.
If the bridal runway was a manifestation of magnificent sarees, dresses, nilame suits or tuxedos inspired by various traditions and themes designed to suit contemporary trends, the coloured bridals, giant headdress or cascading bouquets that were seen on the ramp would be an eye-opener for those wanting daringly innovative styles.
The show this year included the work of Michael Wijesuriya, Ramzi Rahaman, Dr. Premsri Hewawasam, Dhananajaya Bandara, Sumudu Wasantha, Dr. Anusha, P.V.S. Jayarathna, Dr. Namal Balachandra, Thushara Soyza, Charith Wijesekera, Thusitha Ethugala, Rafealla Fernando and Yasisurie Kiribandara.
In the opening segment, Michael Wijesuriya’s brides appeared in sparkling red and gold blended bridal sarees and gowns while Dr. Namal Balachandra’s Bollywood grooms presented a different experience altogether. While Premsri Hewawasam showcased the traditional Kandyan and modern bridal designs, the ’80s theme was Dhananajaya Bandara’s pick for his handmade bridal collection at the show.
Veteran hair and beauty maestro Ramzi Rahaman worked on the theme of simplicity, elegance and practicality – presenting a collection that was unique in its own charming way. Audience also found Dr. Anusha’s Hindu bridal collection to be innovative and graceful.
P.V.S. Jayarathna brought on stage a sophisticated bunch of traditional grooms dressed in nilame suits, Thushara Soyza displayed Indian bridal designs and Charith Wijesekera presented a modern bridal collection. In Thusitha Ethugala’s collection, he gave the traditional Osari a modern twist by adding a pink touch to it while Raffealla Fernando worked on a fusion of European and Sri Lankan designs. Yasisurie Kiribandara’s bridal collection was a reflection on pure love.
The designer Sumudu Wasantha came up with an elegant white and gold bridal collection. In addition, there was a Glow fantasy bridal collection dressed by four different beauticians associated with the brand.
