Black and white in focus at photography exhibit
View(s):Mahesh Ganganath Namalgamuwa captures some exotic shots of landscapes or portraits of a cross section of society in a manner incredibly appealing to the viewer. A photographer who is trying to create a strong identity for himself by highlighting more natural elements in the images he captures, Mahesh will hold his first solo exhibition- ‘The Inspiration of Mahesh Ganganath Photography’ a collection of black and white photos on March 11, 12 and 13 at the Harold Pieris Gallery of the Lionel Wendt from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Black and white photos being his preference, Mahesh says such images have a higher level of abstract quality.“At the time I took up photography, I wanted to be different and this is the reason why I decided to focus more on black and white,” he says.
Minimalistic in focus, there is prominence given to the subject he captures. “I also place the subject in an empty space. When the photograph has ample empty space, the viewer starts to feel more about the subject,” he goes on to explain.
Mahesh began photography as a hobby three years ago and has worked for 14 years as a video editor and producer. Having studied IT, 3D animation and graphic designing after his Advanced Levels, Mahesh who hails from Kandy, has worked as a technical officer at a radio channel and as a video editor in several TV channels and is currently the creative director of his own company.
His exhibition will have a collection of about 40-45 black and white photographs.
