The inaugural Inter Bank Badminton Championship is scheduled to be worked off at the Mercantile Badminton Association Headquarters from today to March 13. This first ever tournament will be called the ‘Sri Lanka Badminton Super League – Battle of the Banks 2016 is organised by the Seylan Bank Sports Club as a Sri Lanka Badminton Association sanctioned event.
Fourteen teams representing commercial and specialized banks will showcase their skills for four days in different categories – Grand Slam, Cup and Plate. Each tie will consist seven matches which include two Men’s Singles, 2 Women’s Singles, one Men’s Double, one Women’s Doubles and one mixed double.
Every bank will try to fill their ledgers with highest number of points to be crowned as the Champion Bank where every match is sure to produce a high standard of shuttle work. A number of national players expected to represent their respective banks which will add glamour to this mega event. The organisers, Seylan Bank Sports Club is confident that the success of this year’s tournament will pave way for an annual Inter-Bank event and also expects to expand this to the South Asian level in the future.
The draw will be held at the Mercantile Badminton Headquarters on February 19 conducted by Sri Lanka Badminton Association officials. Finals of each category will be played on March 13 followed by the prize distribution. Following teams have confirmed their participation: Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank, Hatton National Bank, Seylan Bank ‘A’ and ‘B’, Nations Trust Bank ‘A’ and ‘B’, National Development Bank, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation “A’ and ‘B’, Union Bank, Pan Asia Bank, Sanasa Development Bank ‘A’ and ‘B’. – L.R.
