Global Towers, the first commercial property to open on the Marine Drive in Wellawatte in 2002, this week unveiled Sri Lanka’s first panoramic ballroom ‘The Dome’ on its rooftop.

The ballroom can accommodate 250 guests for a wedding, corporate event, dinner dance or product launch. The Dome Bar, a fully-fledged lounge bar is also based on the rooftop.

In addition, Global Investment Lanka Ltd, the owning company of Global Towers, is currently in the process of constructing a new tower adjacent to the current property, a 35 storied 4-star hotel with 200 suites and 150 rooms at an investment of Rs 9 billion. The property is billed for completion in three years, the company said. On the sidelines of the launch, Global Towers Chairman and Managing Director Phylix Selvadurai told the Business Times that Rs. 85 million was invested for the construction of the rooftop ballroom. “Global Towers being a 3-star hotel, our menus start from Rs. 3,500.00 per plate. We are hoping to host international weddings at our rooftop ballroom because of the sea view which is a unique feature most foreigners look forward for,” he added.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Selvadurai mentioned that the panoramic glass covered roof reveals the full splendour of what Sri Lanka has to offer. This extraordinary space adds a touch of magic with its retractable canopy, giving an uninterrupted view of sky and sea. Sri Lanka has a burgeoning tourism industry and “we intend adding diverse experiences to what is already on offer to ensure that Sri Lanka’s multi-faceted offerings are sought after by diverse clientele,” he said.

“From a business point of view Global Towers will definitely gain a positive impact on its bottom line because we believe that our turnover will increase by at least Rs. 150 million annually,” noted Mr. Selvadurai.

The 168 roomed apartment styled property has one of the most enchanting and uncluttered views of the Indian Ocean, added Mr. Selvadurai, who is a property developer and investor in the UK, the first Sri Lankan expatriate to infuse foreign investment on a large scale during the challenging times in 2002, according to a hotel media release.

It further stated that Global Towers has begun revitalising its entire service ethos to complement its product offerings including the restaurant, gym, spa, swimming pool, pastry shop, business centre and travel office.

The entire team of 185 is gaining a new realm in service standards undergoing comprehensive training programmes, augmenting the service standards to reach higher standards of excellence in meeting customer service levels demanded of the discerning clientele including those from the Middle East and the Maldives, in addition to corporate and leisure travellers.
