A sixty seven ball 116 by opening batsman Avindu Mendis with a 97 run first wicket stand with Kavindu Shehan (36) helped Sri Devananda to a strong position over Dharmasoka College on the first day of Ambalangoda’s Battle of the Blues. Rain delayed the start of the 49th big match between Dharmasoka College and Sri Devananda College at the Urban Council Ground Ambalangoda. Dharmasoka College elected to bat first when play commenced at 11.45 am but were restricted to 196 runs by Charith Rukshan who was rewarded with a five wicket haul and skipper Chathura Milan who captured three wickets. Ravindu Rasantha the top scorer of the innings was unfortunate to be out for 82.

Openers Avindu Mendis and Kavindu Shehan smashed the Dharmasoka bowlers to all parts of the field to take their team to a strong 173/3 at close of play on day one . Dharmasoka 196 in 40.5 overs (Kavish Kumara 25, Kasun Maduranga 28, Ravindu Rasantha 82, Anjana Mawan 27, Harshajith Rukshan 20; Charith Rukshan 5 for 75, Chathura Milan 3 for 20)
