APPA award for Sri Lankan doctor
View(s):Consultant Paediatrician Dr. LakKumar Fernando attached to the Gampaha Hospital was presented with the Outstanding Asian Paediatrician Award by the Asia Pacific Paediatric Association (APPA) on January 21 in Hyderabad, India.
The award was in recognition of Dr. Fernando’s work done both nationally and internationally, with special consideration being given to the latter. In Sri Lanka, Dr. Fernando has been lauded not only for setting up the Centre for Clinical Management of Dengue & Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (CCMDDHF) in Negombo but also his efforts in reducing deaths due to dengue through better clinical management.
After receiving the award, Dr. Fernando while thanking all those who have supported, encouraged and appreciated his work stressed that “all my achievements are a result of having a good team around me all the time. Many including my teachers, colleagues and superiors have given me guidance all the time”.
The APPA has members from more than 20 countries in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
