New feeder service between Colombo and Yangon by SAR MARITIME
View(s):Continental Shipping Line Pte Ltd (CSLPL) this week announced the commencement of a feeder service connecting Colombo directly with Yangon for the first time and subsequently Chennai with the arrival of the M.V. Pathein Star with a capacity of 1468 TEU on March 19. The vessel is also able to accommodate small parcels of break bulk cargoes, the company said in a media release. ”This service, while no doubt will boost the volumes handling in the port of Colombo, will also serve the main line operators with a speedy connection via Colombo to Europe/East coast of India,” the release said.
Continental Shipping Line Pte Ltd is the largest private ship owning company and also owns a container terminal in close proximity to Yangon which is now the base of CSL’s operations. The company is represented in Sri Lanka by SAR MARITIME Agencies (Pvt) Ltd whose management and staff have a wealth of experience in feeder and other maritime operations.
A spokesperson for SAR MARITIME said that this is the only port which was not previously connected to Colombo for transshipment cargo and the recent government 10 per cent rebate given by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority will assist main line vessels to call over at the Colombo port.
