Badulla-Batti road renovation to start in September
View(s):The renovation of the Badulla – Chenkalady (Batticaloa) road spanning a distance of 120 kilometres is due to commence in September, a senior official of the Higher Education and Highways Ministry said. Ministry Secretary D.C. Dissanayake said the stretch from Badulla to Bibile – a distance of 60 kilometres – is to be renovated at a cost of US $ 60 million and is to be funded by OPEC.
The stretch from Bibile to Chenkalady is also estimated to cost US $ 60 million and is to be funded by Saudi Arabia.
The ministry will be calling for bids from companies for the projects. The first stretch of 60 km will be divided into three sections while the rest will be divided to three sections of about 20 km each. The road is part of the A5 highway from Peradeniya to Chenkalady.
