‘Spectrum’ features ballpoint pen art

Almost everyone knows that different people lean towards either art or science but almost never both. Most people who like art dislike science and vice versa. Therefore, Dr. Kamal Perera stands apart as someone who is interested in both. Dr. Perera works as a doctor in the emergency unit in the accident service of the national hospital by day and draws pictures using ballpoint pens by night. In fact, he is preparing to hold his 4th exhibition next week.

As a person who was always interested in art, Dr. Perera was no stranger to the field, having painted as a child using watercolours. However, it was only after he observed an exhibition of ballpoint pen art in Galle during the 1990’s that he decided to experiment with this unconventional medium. He feels that art is a stress reliever and hopes to continue what he considers to be his ‘experiments’ with art. The exhibition will feature a variety of ballpoint art and is aptly titled ‘Spectrum’. Spectrum will be held on April 1-3 from 9 a.m. to 8 pm at the Lionel Wendt art gallery.
