With each passing day the search for parking space in Colombo has become a growing nightmare.
With designated parking spaces few and far between, drivers are forced travel long distances to park their vehicles.
Office workers are among the worst affected by this issue. A few whose offices do not have sufficient parking spots park their vehicles at distant locations and take a bus back to office.
While a few civic conscious drivers take the trouble to look around for a parking spot, there are others who cannot or do not want to make the effort. They park their vehicles on the pavement, impeding pedestrians and forcing them onto the road.
These vehicles parked haphazardly on the side of the road inevitably contribute to traffic jams.
Colombo is a growing city and a growing city needs more parking spaces.
A better idea however, might be to improve the public transport system. After all, not many would drive all the way to work and back if an efficient public transport system which could take them to work and back was available.
