St. Mary’s lead by 74 runs in the first innings against Wesley
The Under-19 Division II final was nicely balanced at the end of day two at Pallekelle yesterday. The Marians who dominated day one, continued their ascendancy in the morning session and took a 74 run lead on the first innings. Wesley struck back through Andrew Parais and had the Marians at 29-5. However they recovered through the efforts of MAS Raheem and Sithum Kumara who made 37 and 45 respectively.
The Marians were bowled out for 120 by Pavais (6 for 34) and Chamod Athulathmudali (4 for 37). The latter took nine wickets in the match.
Needing 195 for a win, Wesley suffered early shocks. But Parvais and Athulathmudali, one more, have so far made a course correction.
The third day, today, should see an interesting finish. Wesley needs 121 and they have six wickets in hand. St. Mary’s 194 and 120 in 45.3 overs (Mass Raheem 37, Sithum Kumara 45, Andrew Parvais 6 for 34, Chamod Athulathmudali 4 for 37) Wesley 77 for 7 contd, 120 in 51.3 overs (Yomesh Ranasinghe 32, Helitha Bambarenda 22, Duminda Chandrasiri 3 for 26, Lasitha Udage 2 for 37, Supun Kumara 3 for 30) and 71 for 4 in 22 overs (Sineth Wickremanayake 19, Chamod Athulathmudali 19 n.o, Andrew Parais 21 n.o, Lasitha Udage 2 for 25, Mass Raheem 2 for 14) - AK
