Two suspects with 220 Kg Cannabis nabbed by Navagattegama Police
View(s):Two suspects with cannabis worth about Rs 40 million, from Kerala, were taken into custody by the Navagattegama Police at Wanni Amunakola. The suspects were trying to escape in a luxury car after ignoring police orders at Saliya Wewa to stop.
The two suspects from Uppukulam, Mannar, were transporting cannabis from Jaffna to Colombo and were apprehended on a tip-off given to OIC Navagattegama Police, Navin Dayananda who led the raid
At Vanni Amunakola, between Navagattegama and Galgamuwa Police stations, the car was stopped with the help of the villagers. The two suspects who had given the slip to the police, were caught at Vanniyagam Reserve.
The consignment weighing more than 220 kg was packed in small packets and is said to be the largest consignment ever caught by the police. It aroused suspicion as to how they had come such a long way passing checkpoints without being caught.
