Rev. Fr. W. N. Lal Pushpadewa Fernando, OMI  has been appointed  Director of the Catholic National Commission for Social  Communications.  Fr. Pushpadeva succeeds  Fr. Cyril Gamini Perera who held the post for several years.

Fr. Pushpadeva will also function as President of SIGNIS, Sri Lanka. He is the youngest and first cleric to be appointed to this position. Fr. Pushpadeva’s last posting was as Editor of the Bakthi Prabodhanaya, Sri Lanka’s oldest monthly Catholic journal which of late has launched a bi-monthly English publication under the same name.

Fr. Pushpadeva holds a Diploma in Journalism from the University of Colombo as well as a Masters Degree in Mass Communications. He has participated in several workshops in cinema and drama in Sri Lanka and India.

Last year he was commissioned by the Conference of Major Religious Superiors (CMRS) to direct a documentary focusing on the concept of consecrated life from a local perspective. Nomiyena Minissu (Immortal Souls) was screened on July 14, 2015 at St. Bridget’s Convent auditorium to rave media reviews.
