Supplementary Estimate vote report out on Tuesday
View(s):The four-member Committee appointed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to probe the controversy over the supplementary estimate vote in Parliament, will submit its report on Tuesday.
The Committee was appointed consequent to allegations by the Joint Opposition (JO) that the vote was miscalculated to favour the Government with two extra votes, when in fact, the vote had been tied at 31 each.
The four-member committee headed by Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan and comprising Justice Minister Dr Wijayadasa Rajapakshe, former Speaker, UPFA MP Chamal Rajapaksa and Water Supply Minister Rauf Hakeem perused the video footage of the vote as part of their inquiry.
They also interviewed officials who were involved in counting votes.
The Speaker is to discuss the report at the party leaders meeting on Tuesday morning, before deciding on the course of action to take if the allegation is proved correct.
The JO has demanded the vote be declared null and void and the Government reintroduce the Rs 55 million supplementary estimate.
