Semage’s paintings in Singapore during Vesak
This Vesak, well known artist Kalasuri Dr. Jayasiri Semage has been invited by Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Singapore Nimal Weerarathne, to hold an exhibition of Buddhist paintings in Mangala Vihara in Singapore. The exhibition will be opened on May 20 with Lim Ah Swan, the chairman of Mangala Vihara as the guest of honour and the High Commissioner as chief guest. It will be open to the public on May 21 and 22.This exhibition will include about 30 oil and acrylic paintings on canvas and nearly 50 water colour paintings which will be on sale to art lovers said Semage. Some of the paintings would be, the renunciation of Bodhisattva, the Enlightenment, the First Sermon, Maternal Feeling and Blooming Youth. There are also paintings of village life.
Semage has held exhibitions in many countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland and Oman. His murals depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha can be seen in Buddhist temples including, Sri Lanka Vihara at Lumbini, Nepal, Buddhist Vihara in Malaysia and Mangala Vihara, Singapore.
