TENSE MEETING
Two high-powered officials started abusing each other at a meeting of a very popular women’s sport in the presence of the Big Man in Sports. The Big Man in Sports intervened to bring the situation under control. There is a lot of tension in this sport since of late and even the ‘pool’ selected for an event in Thailand was disbanded and fresh orders was given to form a new one. The Thai contest is in July and even at the time of writing there were no signs of a new pool being formed. Will Sri Lanka take part in this important Asian meet?
UPGRADING CRICKET GROUND
A staggering 3.79 Million Rupees has been set apart to upgrade a popular sports venue in the heart of Colombo. The reason to upgrade this ground is due to a tour to be made to Sri Lanka by a team ‘Down Under’. However the records do not show that such a game will be played at this venue. Could this be a hoax and who could be pulling whose legs?
WHAT A NERVE!
A certain blacklisted official of a popular sport is making arrangements to tour UK in order to witness and make reports on the current tour to UK by a national team. Obviously he must be having powerful friends at the correct places to even dream of such a thing. Reports indicate that this official has been blacklisted both by the UK and local authorities. Officials at this popular sports body are wondering from where he got the nerve of even think of such a thing.
DISCIPLINARY CHARGES
The newspapers went to town when a popular sportsman who was released of the Disciplinary Charges brought against him. All that is very, very good! But what about the several other sportsmen facing similar charges with nobody to help them? They are languishing in the dark with no one to help them? Are only sportsmen attached to this particular sport receiving such VIP treatment because a considerable amount of money has been spent to pull him out of the ruck he had fallen into.
STOPPED FROM WORK
Forty odd district coaches, of a popular sport, drawing high salaries, were stopped from work as they were allegedly working behind the scenes for their political bosses. This happened three months ago. Since no action – most probably because there was no proof of such activity – was taken against them and they have been asked to continue their work.
HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT
The House where Decisions are being taken was full of talk of a particular sport by a certain official. Obviously he knew what he was talking about. The question is he being pumped by a certain official who has his legs spread apart between the House that makes Decisions and this particular sport? Your guess is as good as mine!
