“Registrar of Companies’ deplorable service to the public”
The Registrar General of Companies, D.N.R. Siriwardena has sent the following response to a letter published in the Business Times on April 17 under the above heading: “There are more than 600 documents submitted with the Department per day. After submission of the above documents, complete and accurate documents are registered and certified copies will be issued. Incomplete and false documents cannot be registered without submission of fresh documents (instead of such false documents) under the existing provisions of the Companies Act.
Once the document is registered such registration cannot be revoked without a court order. Therefore it takes additional time to register and issue the certified copies. Most of the people have filed these false and incomplete documents and it may occur (lead to) unnecessary delays within this department. Therefore (the) public should know to submit accurate documents to avoid unnecessary delays. There are several cadre vacancies in the Department and we have informed the Ministry of Public Administration to fill the vacancies.
After implementing the Computerised Project (e-Roe Project) most of the obstacles will be minimized and we will be able to provide (a) maximum service to the general public. Currently the Department will provide name approval within one working day and incorporation of a new company within two working days. These are a few advancements in the current services of the Department.”
