Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Pieris further remanded former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake till June 9, in connection with the murder of former national rugby player Wasim Thajudeen. The Additional Magistrate refusing bail to the SDIG, noted that he would act according to the provisions of the Constitution and Criminal Law and not on the whims and fancies of anybody.

Attorney-at-Law Anil Silva P.C., appearing for the former SDIG, told court there are instances where the court issued orders to please those in power. However, those orders eroded the integrity of the institution in the eyes of the public. He also told court that there is an attempt to implicate his clients in the murder and to remand them.

Senior State Counsel Dilan Ratnayake appearing for the Attorney General, objected to the suspect being granted bail, as the allegations against the suspect are serious, and there is a possibility that the charge of “conspiracy to murder Thajudeen”, could be brought against him.

The court also remanded the other suspect, former Crimes OIC of the Narahenpita Police till June 9.
The CID arrested Anura Senanayake allegedly for concealing evidence in connection with the murder of Wasim Thujudeen, and was remanded by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
