A three-day exhibition and sale, action and awareness programme on saving Mother Earth will be held by the Kithu Dana Pubuduwa on June 3, 4 and 5 at the Sri Prasansa Ramaya at Diyagala in Ragama.

It is one year since the groundbreaking encyclical “Laudato Si” –  on the care of our common home — was authored and published by Pope Francis on May 25, 2015.  “Laudato Si” deals with the the ecological and environmental crises we are facing as inhabitants of planet Earth.  It brings to our attention that we are on the brink of disaster. It also tells us that this calamity we are facing is the result of our attitude towards Planet Earth which the Pope names as our “Common Home” – quote: “ ….. if we no longer speak the language of fraternity and beauty in our relationship with Mother Nature, our attitude will be that of masters, consumers, ruthless exploiters, unable to set limits on our immediate needs. By contrast, if we feel intimately united with all that exists, then compassion and care will well up spontaneously. The Pope tells us the need to emulate St.Francis of Assisi. We need to refuse to turn reality into an object simply to be used and controlled. Included in it are suggestions as to how we can respond to this crisis.

The six chapters of “Laudato Si” are:

Chapter One: What is Happening to Our Common Home

Chapter Two: The Gospel of Creation

Chapter Three: The Human Roots of the Ecological Crisis

Chapter Four: Integral Ecology

Chapter Five: Lines of Approach and Action

Chapter Six: Ecological Education and Spirituality.

“Laudato Si” is a document which takes the reader  through the process of seeing, judging and acting with regard to the ecological and environmental  crisis we are facing.

On February 14, the Kithu Dana Pubuduwa , the Apostolate of Renewal organized a day’s programme to introduce the Pope’s encyclical to a cross-section of their membership and other renewal groups and organizations showing a commitment towards the environment.  Kithu Dana Pubuduwa has organized a more elaborate programme in the form of an exhibition and sale, with stalls which will focus on each of the chapters of “Laudato Si”.

On Friday, June 3 the exhibition and sale from  9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. will be mainly for school children.

On Saturday June 4 and 5, the   exhibition and sale will take place  from 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Talks by resource persons, panel discussions, short films and cultural items will also be held. Organisations participating in the exhibition will also have their products, including food items for sale.
