Sri Lankan delegation at Taiwan’s Presidential Inauguration Ceremony
View(s):The 14th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony of Republic of China (Taiwan) was held on May 20.
A three-member delegation from Sri Lanka was invited to this Ceremony by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ROC (Taiwan). It comprised Lasantha Goonewardena (Chairman of Lankaputhra Development Bank and Past District Governor of International Association of Lions Clubs), Sathira Sarachchandra (Member of Youth Parliament of Sri Lanka) and Gamini Pitipana (AAL).
During the visit Mr. Goonewardene and the delegation exchanged views with Dr. Chen Chien-Jen (Vice President of Taiwan), Chih-Chung Wu (Dep. Minister) and James C.F. Huang (Director, Department of International Affairs).
During the discussions the Vice President mentioned that NGOs of both countries have a good relationship and they are doing a great service. He also mentioned that under the “New South Bound Policy” Taiwan would like to share resources, knowledge, technology, economy and culture with Sri Lanka.
Mr. Goonewardene expressed his gratitude to the people of Taiwan for their continuous support towards Sri Lanka in hard times.
Mr. Sarachchandra briefly explained the Youth Parliament concept, its vision and mission and the election system.
Dr. Chen said the youth parliament concept of Sri Lanka was a good opportunity for the youth. He suggested that Taiwan should see the possibilities of adopting the same.
