Making a fashion statement that hasn’t been made in Sri Lanka before. This is what internationally acclaimed floral designer and artist from Singapore Harijanto Setiawan  did when he combined the world of fashion and flowers to present his collection of headgear, wristbands, bouquets and dresses at an event titled Silver Dazzle on May 28.

Silver dazzle was held at the Galadari Hotel to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Shi-en Ikebana and Floral Art Society of Sri Lanka.

The Shi-en Ikebana club was initiated here by Kamala Pillai  in 1991. She had trained in Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Later the association expanded and now it combines two groups, the Shi-en Ikebana and Floral Art Society of Sri Lanka  (SIFAS). The group has a membership of more than 70 and the patron is the Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka while the advisor is Harijanto Setiawan.

Harijanto Setiawan, an architect by profession, known as Hari, has won many international awards for floral art. The audience was treated to creative designs, executed with passion, precision and perfection by Hari and his team from Singapore.

While flowers were the main focus of the event, entertainment was  aplenty with Friends in Harmony, and traditional Sri Lankan drummers keeeping everyone’s toes tapping.

A grand buffet wrapped up the evening. The proceeds of the show will go towards SIFAS key projects to help Thalasaema patients.
