Isipathana, S. Thomas’ and Science win
Isipathana and S. Thomas’ colleges continued their unbeaten streak with two more games remaining while Science clinched a low-scoring thriller in three Singer Schools Under-20 League Rugby Championship matches played yesterday.
In a match which could have gone either way, Isipathana overcame Trinity College by 32-22 after leading 17-8 at halftime at Longdon Place. Trinity challenged right throughout but Isipathana played up to their potential to win the game through five tries, two conversions and a penalty. Trinity scored from three tries, two conversions and a penalty.
At Mt. Lavinia, S. Thomas’ completely dominated over St. Peter’s College after early shackles to emerge victorious by 36-13. The Peterites played tough in the first half but the Thomians took the lead by 19-10. The winners scored from five tries, four conversions and a penalty to keep the Archibald Perera Trophy for yet another year. St. Peter’s scored from a converted try and two penalties.
The final score will definitely not give a clear picture on how the game went on, but it was a tough battle before Science romped home 11-7 against Wesley College at the Air Force ground in Ratmalana. Both teams played clever rugby but committed mistakes galore as Science took a slender 5-0 lead at halftime through an unconverted try. They added six more points to the tally through two penalties. Wesley almost took the lead at some instances and scored from a solitary converted try.
