Samantha Dodanwela a former Trinity College vice-Captain. Sri Lanka A, SSC and national poolist was re-elected as the chairman of the SSC for the 5th consecutive year. He also represented Central Province, Kandy CC, and played league cricket in the United Kingdom during late 90’s.
The following were elected to the committee: Samantha Dodanwela – Chairman, Micheal De Soyza Mahinda Halangoda, Shamal Silva, Thilina Kandamby – Thilina a former national cricketer, was newly elected to the committee.
Mahela Jayawardena was elected as an adviser to the cricket committee. Naveen Perera will be the coordinator. 1st XI coach – Gayan Wijekoon – A Former national player. Sudashana Guruge – as the Manager Samantha Dodanwela in his address mentioned that he is honoured to be elected as the Chairman of SSC and thanked everyone placing confidence on him and he ensured that he will do his utmost to retain SSC as No 1 cricket club in the island. He also mentioned that it is important to win championships and also to see SSC producing cricketers to represent the country.
SSC has produced cricketers to represent the country more than any other clubs and also have produced seven cricketers who went on to captain the country which is no doubt a unique achievement by a club. During Dodanwela’s tenure as Chairman, he mentioned that 2013-2014 was the best year, as SSC went on to clinch for championships during a year, which no other club has achieved., namely The premier League, Premier Limited over, Premier T-20, and the under 23. SSC also established a new record in 2014 by scoring 714 runs in an inning, which is the highest domestic team total.
He also said SSC has always maintained a high standard of discipline on and off the field and it is important that we continue to maintain this high standard. He also thanked the SSC present sponsors, Lankem Robbialac and Kandurata Umbrella’s for their,continues support as SSC’s premier sponsors of cricket and these sponsorships have enabled the club to support youngsters financially and also to recruit new talent.
Dodanwela was also elected to the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka cricket in its annual General Meeting at the beginning of this year.
He is a Tea taster by profession and he’s presently the Chief Executive officer of Mercantile Produce Brokers (Pvt) Ltd.
