Speeding cab kills woman, driver granted bail

A woman crossing the road at Piliyandala was knocked down by a speeding cab and she succumbed to her injuries on admission to the National Hospital yesterday, the coroner’s courts was told.

The woman, a labourer, was returning home with her two children after collecting her wages. She was identified as H.Gunawathie of Boralesgamuwa. The postmortem was conducted by J.M.O. Dr. (Mrs.) M.R.D.Suffian who certified the death as an accident.

Additional City Coroner Deshani Samaraweera ordered the cab driver H.Jayantha (43), who had been granted bail to appear in court on July 8.
