View(s):Integrated infrastructure and engineering solutions provider MTD Walkers PLC says that it’ll cushion the massive drop in profits during the last quarter in the coming year. The company’s 4Q16 saw a net loss of Rs. 266 million. MTD Walkers has made forays into the Maldives and Bangladesh in construction and is negotiating large infrastructure projects in Bangladesh, officials said. “It was a tough year for the construction industry and we will cushion the impact this year.
We’re negotiating large water supply, MRT, bridges, etc in Bangladesh,” Jehan Amaratunga, Executive Deputy Chairman of MTD Walkers PLC told the Business Times. In May Walkers CML International (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of MTD Walkers PLC was incorporated in the Maldives to meet the growing demand of infrastructure development activities in the country. The company has secured an infrastructure project in the Maldives, Mr. Amaratunga said.
He added that the company will capitalise on emerging engineering opportunities available in the Maldives in the areas of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, building services and marine engineering. The Business Times in February reported the company’s intention to expand to both these countries. Meanwhile the company is also eyeing to get into the IT sector. “We’re interested in the IT engineering business and hope to go into this business in the future,” Mr. Amaratunga added.
