School- turned relief camp in Aranayake to open tomorrow
View(s):Sumangala Vidyalaya in Aranayaka the only school that was turned into a relief camp for those affected by the devastating landslide in the area, will be opened for students tomorrow, as the people have been transferred to three other camps, officials said.
Relief camps have now been set up at Madiliya Rajamaha Viharaya and the two Muslim schools in Thalgaspitiya and Vilpola which are closed for the period of Ramazan.
Kegalle District Secretary Abeywikrama Wanasooriya said temporary shelters will be ready in about two months in Kalugala in Aranayake.
Geege Kulathunga (66) who was among those transfered from Sumangala Vidyalaya to Madiliya Rajamaha Viharaya, two days ago, said he was satisfied with the facilities.
“We have space to cook our own meals, and we are provided other facilities. We are very comfortable here,” he said.
A.G Nilmini Senewirathne (38), her husband and three children are also now at the Madiliya Raja Maha Viharaya. She said more than 30 students including her son who would be sitting for the O/Level exam this year, have been provided with the necessary school supplies and means to attend school. “ My older son was given a transport season pass to attend Dikpitiya school and my younger son who is in grade 6, now goes to a school in Aranayake,” she said.
Meanwhile villagers displaced protested when Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa visited Aranayaka area this week. They claimed that the government was slow in providing relief.
