Negombo and Wennappuwa emerge victorious
Negombo Youth and New Youngs Wennappuwa emerged victorious in the Dialog Champions League 2016 Stage 5 football matches played yesterday. Negombo Youth defeated Civil Security Force 7-0 at the Kelaniya Sports Complex while Wennappuwa New Youngs trounced Super Sun Beuwela 3-2 in the match played at the Vernon Fernando Stadium Kalutara. Negombo Youth led 4-0 in the first half against Civil Security Force. Nigerian player E.B. Acooty booted three goals for the winners in the 12th, 31st and 35th minutes and the other goal scorers were M.M.J.I. Suranga (2 goals) in 84th and 86th minutes while A. Mumuni and D.A. Silva scored a goal each in the 13th and 57th minutes respectively.
In the other game between New Young and Super Sun, the latter led 1-0 in the first half. Goal scorers for New Youngs were D. Abeyratne (38th minute), D.A. Priyankara (61st minute) and A.R.M. Mushikan (90+6 minute). For the losers both goals were netted by D. Joseph in the 47th and 77th minutes. Five matches are in the cards today – Police vs Air Force at Police Park, Army vs. Up Country Lions at Nawalapitiya, Navy vs Thirari Youth at Welisara, Saunders vs. Java Lane at Kalaniya and Matara FC vs. Solids at Anuradhapura. - SP
