Renown in runaway 9-1 win over Thihariya Youth
Defending runners-up Renown SC Colombo drubbed Thihariya Youth by nine goals to one in the Dialog Champions League 2016 Football Tournament Stage Six game at the Kelaniya Football Complex. Seven matches were played yesterday and the highest number of goals was scored in the Renown-Thihariya Youth game. The competition is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Football Federation. At the end of the first half the winners led 7-0. Job Michael, a foreign player booted in three goals in the 15th, 19th and 31st minutes.
Mohammed Fazal scored two goals in the 35th and 37th minutes. Assam Akram scored two goals in the 11th and 91st minutes. M.C. M. Rifnas also banged in two goals in the 7th and 76th minutes. Thihariya Youth’s solitary goal was by P.T. Mmaduaburuchci, a foreigner in the 68th minute. At the Welisara Navy grounds Sri Lanka Army SC had an easy 6-0 win over Civil Security Force SC. This was the second highest score yesterday. In the first half Army led 4-0 with M.T.Chandrasekera scoring three goals in the 41st, 45th and 76th minutes.
T. Senanayake scored two goals in the 13th minute and 92nd minute. S. Kumara scored in the 32nd minute. In the other four games, Super Sun Beruwala beat Java Lane 2-1, defending champions Colombo FC beat Matara FC 4-0, Air Force SC beat New Youngs SC 2-1 and SL Navy beat Police 2-0. Up Country Lions SC and Solid SC figured in a one all draw. In the Colombo FC vs Matara FC game, Colombo FC led 3-0 in the first half with O. Olayemi scoring two goals in the 23rd and 28th minutes.
The other goals were scored by M. Shazmy in the 33rd minute and K.A. D. Madushanka in the 47th minute. In the Super Sun SC Beruwala – Java Lane SC game at the City Football League Complex, Super Sun led 2-0 with K.M. Safraz (22nd minute) and Janith Piyumal (30th minute), scoring the goals. In the second half N.M. Nazibdeen scored a penalty in the 66th minute for Java Lane. Up Country and Solid figured in a one all draw at the Nawalapitiya Jayatilleke Stadium.
Both goals were scored in the first half with T.D. Wijetunga scoring in the 7th minute for Solid SC and for the Up Country Lions A.A. Ossar scoring in the 42nd minute. Navy beat Police 2-0 at the Police Ground Bambalpitiya 2-0 with both goals being scored in the first half. R.M.J.D. Ratnayake and Salinda Wijetunga scored the goals. At Ekala Air Force ground, Air Force beat New Youngs Wennappuwa by 2 goals to 1. Today: Crystal Palace vs Negombo Youth at Jayatilleke Stadium, Nawalapitiya at 3.30 pm.
