‘Swara’ makes waves
View(s):The band ‘SWARA’ is formed to make a difference in the music and the entertainment industry in Sri Lanka. The band comprises five vocalists of varied styles. ‘SWARA’ provides a unique musical blend of Russian, Spanish, Rastafari style, English and Sinhala. All vocalists had been in the music industry for more than 15 years and have now partnered to make a difference in the local music culture.
Since the formation of the band early this year, they have played at corporate functions, weddings, private parties and live shows in hotels. The response from both the young and old has been encouraging.
The individual profiles of the band members are impressive; Manjula Wijesekera has composed many melodies for both professional and upcoming artistes. He is also experienced in training orchestras. Sanjeewa Uyanhewa had toured Eastern Europe to perform in live concerts, backing music for international artistes as well. Lasantha, nicknamed as ‘Jambo’ has performed in Las Vegas and won the silver medal for the best classical solo.
The bassist Kasun had performed in the Maldives and can sing in four languages. Sudam is the lead guitarist with a knack for several instruments and is also a vocalist with international exposure.
