JUMPING THE BANDWAGON
View(s):The sport with two wheels are in two minds whether to send participants to a meet in Korea at the end of the month for fear that they might jump the bandwagon and decide to stay back. This sport has been receiving several invitations, pre-paid at that, but the parent body is avoiding these invitations.
DEVELOPMENT MONEY ALL IN VAIN
A leading sport was fined 20 Lakhs for fielding a foreign player at an international tournament by the sport’s world governing body. Plans are now being made to pay this amount from the monies set aside for development of the game. The governing body had wanted the details of the player concerned but the local authorities have still not submitted the details. It is speculated that two big shots connected with the game had been responsible for this move.
KEEPING QUIET FOR A REASON
Two drivers were seen going for each other at a recent meet but the driver who was at the receiving end had not made any complaint to the organisers. It has now surfaced that the driver at the receiving end of the blows had kept quiet because for fear that he will be at the losing end of a set of accounts that the assailant is in charge of and that he will not be paid in time.
THE REJECTED COACH
A top level foreign coach was in Sri Lanka recently to recruit coaches for the local body. A leading player had attended the interview and the interviewer had rejected him after asking him what his qualifications are. Exasperated, the player had asked in Sinhala, “What are your qualifications for doing this job?” When this was translated by the translator who was present, the foreign coach was shocked beyond words! The player concerned had walked off after telling off the foreign coach.
STANDING STILL
Due to the present matches that are in progress where the local team is doing well, apparently other work at the sport’s headquarters are not progressing satisfactorily. This has been brought to the notice of the Boss. Will any action be taken now at least?
SWISS TRIP DOWN THE DRAIN
A popular sport ridden on two wheelers is unable to find Rs. Seven and a half lakhs to send a trainer to Switzerland, the sport’s headquarters. This trainer had approached the headquarters of all sports in the island, and had presented his case and he was assured that he will be given a return air-ticket only for the task. With no other money, he had dejectedly withdrawn, as only an air- ticket is not sufficient to make the Swiss trip!
