Kalpitiya land fraud exposed
The Government has reacquired 200 acres of state lands at Aalankudawa in Kalpitiya following allegations that some former Pradeshiya Sabha members and a Provincial Councillor had used forged documents to lease them out to investors, an official said.
Kalpitiya Divisional Secretary Sunanda Prasanna Herath said he had instructed these lands should be maintained by the Government and that they should not be leased without approval from the Secretary to the Lands Ministry.
He said the former Divisional Secretary Rangana Fernando had taken legal proceedings to establish the state’s control over these lands.
A female employee of the Australian High Commission and an Indian singer are reported to be among those who had been duped into purchasing state lands by these racketeers.
