Uva PC Deputy Chairman’s driver arrested
View(s):The driver of the Deputy Chairman of the Uva Provincial Council has been remanded in custody for allegedly running down an Advanced Level (A/L) student at a pedestrian crossing in Sevanagala.
The victim, W.M. Ajith Madhusanka (20) had been on his way to sit for a paper at the GCE A/L examination when he was knocked down while crossing the road using the pedestrian crossing opposite the Wijerama Temple in Sevanagala.
The victim had fallen unconscious following the incident and was admitted to the Embilipitiya hospital. Hospital sources confirmed that his injuries were minor.
Deputy Chairman of the Uva PC, Galagamage Wimaladasa, who is from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) representing the Joint Opposition, had been in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The driver, identified as Samantha Dissanayake, was arrested and produced in court, where he was ordered to be kept in remand custody till August 25.
