“They All Matter”, a musical programme featuring selections of romantic and contemporary chamber music will be performed at the Russian Cultural Centre on Saturday, August 27 at  7 p.m. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Kandy Cancer Treatment Centre Fund.

The Cancer Treatment Centre in Kandy currently treats over 24,000 patients each year. With only 80 beds within the facility and limited laboratory resources the centre is unable to meet the growing demand for oncological care in the Central Province.

The Kandy Cancer Treatment Fund, a public-private partnership managed by the Kandy General Hospital Committee, will be utilised to complete construction of a state-of-the-art treatment facility that will meet this need.

“As musicians we want to give back to our community through our gifts,” said one of the artists Thivanthi Perera. “Each of us [performers] has a personal reason to support this cause.”

Performers for the “They All Matter” fundraiser concert include Sulara Nanayakkara (violin),  Nilupul Silva (violin), Thivanthi Perera (viola) and Saranga Cooray (cello) all well  reputed classical musicians of Colombo. Guest performers at the event will include Sri Lanka’s premier violinist Ananda Dabare alongside well known musicians, pianist Joshua Asokan and flautist Tilanka Jayamanne, promising an exquisite evening of classical music.

Among the numbers billed for performance at the “They All Matter” fundraiser are J. S. Bach’s ‘Concerto in F minor’ with Dabare as soloist, the 1st movement from ‘String Quartet No. 6 in F minor, Op. 80’ by Felix Mendelssohn, ‘Lullaby for String Quartet’ by George Gershwin, ‘Habanera’ from “Carmen” by Georges Bizet as well as ‘Five Pieces for Two Violins and Piano’ by Dmitri Shostakovich.

The programme will also feature the 3rd movement from “String Trio” by Sri Lankan composer Natasha Senanayake as well as a lighter medley of pieces from ‘Sound of Music’  arranged for string quartet.

Tickets priced Rs. 1,000 are available at Barefoot Gallery and Calorie Counter.
