This conference aims to enhance human rights protection and promotion towards entrenching human rights values by providing a platform to academics, civil society, students and participants to share their knowledge, research and related experiences towards creating a human rights culture for all.
The CSHR was established as a human rights organisation in 1991, within the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo. The CSHR has been engaging in education, research, capacity building and providing knowledge services in the area of human rights to diverse sectors such as government, including security forces and law enforcement authorities, legal and medical professionals, school and university communities, media, rural and plantation communities, quazis, civil society and the general public, islandwide.
Being a university based organisation, the CSHR has been able to interlink the theoretical aspect with the practical application of human rights at different levels across the country. This exceptional status, coupled with international collaboration, has also enabled the CSHR to carry out a variety of human rights education programmes from certificate to master’s level, in addition to the dissemination of human rights through research, capacity building and knowledge services at the local and international levels.
