STC Hockey big match on Sep 24
The second “Battle of Thomians” the hockey big match between S. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia and St. Thoma’s Matale for the “Eric Hulangamuwa challenge shield ” will be played at the astro turf , Reid Avenue on Saturday September 24th at 4.00 pm. The two schools — one by the sea and the other in the hill country , boasts of producing top hockey players of national and international fame and have been playing competitive hockey for decades. This annual encounter jointly organised by Matale old Thomians hockey association and Mt Lavinia old Thomians hockey union will be hosted by one of the two schools and this year it will be St. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia who will be hosting the event. Nation Trust Bank (NTB) is the main sponsor of this big match. Prior to the main event, an under 15 hockey fixture between the two schools will be played at the same venue at 3.00 pm. St. Thomas’ Matale won the inaugural “Battle of Thomians” by defeating S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia 2 – 0 at Matale last year.
