Higher than the human spirit can soar

The fusion of dreams, creativity and practical applicability, aspiration and innovation, became a reality at the Ravana Aviation Kite Airshow -2016, held recently at the Central College Grounds Jaffna.
The enthralling Kite Airshow is the brain-child of Captain Harsha Govinda Koralearachchi; an Entrepreneur, former Air-Force operational helicopter pilot,trainer and visionary in the local aviation industry. He has now gifted his original concept to the youth to expand, explore and enjoy. Harsha has introduced new Kites designs to the aviation world under the theme of “Kite to Aviation”.
The genesis of his Kite show was in 2014, created to enthuse the youth of Sri Lanka to be inspired in careers in the Aviation Industry. The recent edition was a perfect mix of youthful exuberance and practical application from the experts, which showcased many colourful creations, applying the dynamics of aviation.
The event itself was unique and was the first time, a day and night event of this magnitude was organised under the theme of “Kite to Aviation”. Competitors had the licence to showcase their respective Kites in 4 competing categories, namely, “Best Shaped ”, “Best Natural”, Best Cultural”, and “Best Innovative”. Each theme empowered the kite-maker to think of forms, use of nature and natural products, using the local cultural signs and symbols (masks) and creativity and beauty of design.
The organisers had done an excellent job in marshalling the resources, interest and talent of the youth in Jaffna. Through sinew and string, and in turn from kite, to wind and sky, those who flew each creation, also dreamed of flying.
The Ravana Aviation Kite to Aviation theme also symbolises the potential Sri Lanka has with its pristine sea, sand and sky, to draw admirers to this beautiful tear-drop island.
The sky is then the limit for those who dream, who dare to rise above the ordinary and empower themselves to reach the pinnacle of achievement.
To all who dream of being a pilot, an adventurer, a tour-guide or a movie-industry stunt pilot, the Aviation industry beckons.
From concept, to model, to man-made wonders, the Kite Show is just an inspiration, in a vast universe of possibilities. There is enough room in the sky for more kites, more planes and beyond the stars the galaxies await the voyagers of time.
