Freddie Mercury the late leader of the iconic group Queen has been honoured with a blue plaque on the house where he lived after his family arrived in England from Tanzania in 1964. The blue plaque by English Heritage was unveiled on the house by Queen guitarist Brian May and Mercury’s sister Kashmira Cooke down Gladstone Avenue in Feltham, West London on September 1. In another development asteroid 17473 which was discovered in 1991, the year Mercury died was named after the late singer on September 4 in Monteux, Switzerland. Freddie, whose actual name was Farrokh Bulsara, would have been 70 years old on September 5.

The Chainsmokers have heated out Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ with their single ‘Closer’. The Chainsmokers song has topped the UK singles chart, end the five week reign by Major Lazer with Justin Bieber and MØ. In a week where very little activity was observed on the chart, ‘Closer’ had 80,000 in combined sales as the song took a two point jump to take pole position on the UK singles chart. ‘Closer’ has improved on the chart against the duo’s last single “Don’t Let Me Down” featuring Daya as it peaked at No:2. The current chart topper features the additional vocals of Halsey, also a US singer whose actual name is Ashley Frangipane. One reason that helped ‘Closer’ move to the top of the UK chart is after the Chainsmokers performed it at the VMA awards on 28th August. The song also topped the US chart and has now added on Australia, Canada and New Zealand too. The Chainsmokers comprise Andrew Taggart and  Alex Pall. ‘Closer’ has been co-penned by Taggart Shaun Frank, Isaac Slade and Joe King. ‘Closer’ is the first No: 1 song for the group. At this moment of time the song is a standalone track, but could eventually be on the group’s next album.

The Weeknd has got its name into the recently published Guinness Book of World Records for having 60 million users on Spotify between December 1, 2014 and December 1, 2015 for the album ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’. The Canadian singer also has another listing for most number of weeks on the US top 10 singles chart, 45 weeks from the songs ‘Earned It’, ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ and ‘The Hills’ for a solo artist.

Justin Bieber has got a listing for the artist who is the first to score No1, 2 and 3 spots on the UK singles chart with ‘Love Yourself’, ‘Sorry’ and ‘What Do You Mean’.  The late David Bowie is listed for have 19 albums on the UK chart in a single week following his death in January this year.

Rita Ora performed a touching version of the carol “What Child Is This” at the vigil ahead of Mother Teresa’s canonisation at St.Peter’s Basilica, Rome on September 3. The Kosovo, born singer was backed by the Kosovo Philharmonic. Her family was in attendance.  Mother Teresa was of Albanian origin and born in Macedonia.

Hip hop star Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has opened a free school recently called the Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School in his hometown in New York, US. The school has classes from grade 6 to grade 12.
