The Kingsbury Hotel is set to host a three-way gastronomic journey this month, where guests can sample the authentic cuisine of Mexico, Indonesia and Thailand. The international food triathlon 2016 is being held by the Kingsbury in collaboration with the embassies of Mexico, Indonesia and Thailand where chefs from the three countries will be in Sri Lanka to present  authentic cuisine.

The embassy of Mexico in India, along with the Honorary Consul General to Mexico in Sri Lanka Mohan Pandithage will be facilitating the Mexican leg of the triathlon alongside the Kingsbury. The Mexican officials have brought celebrity chef Gabriela Ruiz Lugo to Sri Lanka to prepare authentic Mexican food. Chef Gabriela feels that many of the dishes which Sri Lankans consider to be Mexican food are actually food from the border of Mexico and the United States more popularly known as ‘Tex-Mex’ food. She is excited to prepare authentic Mexican cuisine for Sri Lankans-the festival ends today, September 11. The Mexican food will be served a’ la carte at The Grill.

In addition to this, there will be a screening of Mexican vintage films directed by Ismael Rodriguez at the Kingsbury pool café. The inauguration of this film festival was under the auspices of Ms. MebaPria, Ambassador of Mexico to India and non-resident ambassador to Sri Lanka. The nightly screenings will continue till September 11– screenings at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The Indonesian Embassy will also be partnering with the Kingsbury for the second leg of the triathlon fromSeptember 15-18. Indonesia’s celebrity chef William Wongso plans to give Sri Lanka an insight into traditional Indonesian Cuisine at the Yue Chuan in a buffet. Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Harimawan Suyitno feels that Sri Lankans will find some of the food offered at the Kingsbury during this time quite familiar, but also rather different, but something which they will love nonetheless.

The Royal Thai Embassy will collaborate with the Kingsbury for the third leg of the triathlon from September 23 – October 2. The Thai food festival will begin with a grand High Tea infused with dance performances by traditional Thai dancers from September 23-25 at The Gourmet Station.

From September 26 to October 2, there will be Thai food served at The Ocean Seafood Restaurant. This food will be served a la carte. Representative of the Royal Thai Embassy Ms. Khun Natnapang hopes that the food festival will encourage Sri Lankans to travel to Indonesia, especially given the growing relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

There will also be 15% off on Food at The Grill till October 2 for HSBC Credit Cardholders. Reservations can be made by calling 077 108 77 20 or visiting http://goo.gl/vRO8TI.
