Royal-Nalanda Hockey final
Two leading schools from Colombo Royal College and Nalanda College have reached the Boy’s finals of the Hockey Tournament of the All-Island Schools Games while top and seasoned contenders Seetha Devi Girls School Malate and President’s Girls’ School Nawala will battle it out in the Girls’ final, which will take place today. The two finals will be played at the Astro Turf in Torrington soon after the third place playoffs today.
In the semi-finals, Royal defeated St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa 5-4 on penalties while Nalanda overcame a strong Vijaya College Matale by 4-1. In the quarter-finals Royal beat St. Aloysius’ College Galle 6-5 while Nalanda thrashed Dharmadutha Badulla by 1-0. St. Joseph Vaz edged out S. Thomas’ College 1-0 while Vijaya College humbled St. Thomas’ College Matara by 5-0.
In the Girls’ semi-finals Seetha Devi GS beat Sri Sumangala GS Panadura 6-2 while President’s GS smashed Pandittherippu GS Jaffna by 6-0. In the quarter-finals Seetha Devi GS beat Jaffna College 1-0 while President’s GS St. Anthony’s GS Katugastota 1-0. Sri Sumangala GS overcame High School Kandy 1-0 while Pandittherippu GS received a walkover to reach the semi-final stage. The defending champions in Boy’s and Girls’ — Zahira College Matale and Sangamitta National School Matale were not able to qualify from the regional stages of the All-Island School Games.
