The Textured Jersey (TJ) Sports grounds in Seethawaka once again turned into a spirited battlefield, when 12 Inter-Dept teams locked horns for the TJ Premier League, ‘TJPL Cup 2016’. The annual 1-Day Cricketing event is one of the most looked-forward to in TJ’s sports calendar, showcasing the sports talent of its staff who give off their best to ensure a thrilling, yet friendly, tournament. The TJPL Cup 2016, consisted of 12 matches in the 1st Round, the Super 8 Round, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals and Final between Knitting and Dyeing departments. In a close encounter, Knitting Dept overcame Dyeing to win the ‘TJPL 2016 Cup’.
The 5th TJPL was turned into a full scale ‘Cricket Carnival’ with some amazing creations and ensembles displayed by the departments. The 12 competing teams were from Quality, Dyeing, Finishing, Merchandising, Knitting, Planning, HR/Procurement/Commercial, Printing, Warehouse, Engineering, Synthetic and IT/Finance. Nuwan Alahakoon of Dyeing won ‘Best Batsman’, while Thuwan Yazzer of Knitting won ‘Best Bowler’ title. ‘Man of the Tournament’ was R.A. Rasika Dilruk of Knitting, who gave a brilliant all-round performance throughout the tournament.
The winning teams and individual winners received medals and cash prizes, apart from the trophies. TJ who are are the reigning Mercantile ‘B’ Division Cricket Champs, have several National level cricketers in their team. Dammika Prasad, Lakshan Sandakan, Jeffery Vandersay, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal and Milinda Siriwardana are TJ staffers making waves in the international Cricket circuit.
