India’s LAKME fashion week comes to Lanka
India’s famous LAKME Fashion week, an annual event which draws filmstars and celebrities in its host country will now make its appearance in Sri Lanka. The Lakme Sri Lanka Fashion Week 2016 by DIVAlicious will be a three-day fashion show held in Colombo from October 8-10.
Speaking at a news conference, co-founder and president of the event Sahan Hewadewa said the show is aimed at people from all over Sri Lanka, with a special focus on the younger generation of fashionistas.
“We want to educate people in Sri Lanka about the fashion seasons and different trends,” he said. Co-founder Prasanna Pathmanathan echoed his sentiments, stating that fashion should not be available only to a select crowd of people from Colombo, which is why Lakme Sri Lanka Fashion Week 2016 by DIVAlicious plans to take fashion to other parts of the island as well in the years to come. The Indian designers featured will include Babita Malkani, Sonaakshi Raj, Nishka Lulla, Aarti Vijaya Gupta, Valliyan, SVA and Neeta Lulla. The show on October 8 will be an invitation only event while the exhibition on October 9 and 10 will be open to the public free of charge. The show on October 9 and 10 will be held at the Kingsbury hotel, Colombo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. where visitors can meet the designers and purchase their garments.
