Essay and oratory competition to mark Malay Language Day
View(s):For the 10th year in succession, Conference of Sri Lankan Malays (COSLAM) will mark Hari Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language Day) on January 08 next year in an effort to encourage and popularise the use of the language among Malays and other people.
In pursuance of this, COSLAM will conduct essay and oratory competitions in Malay in Under 12, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 21 age groups and in open categories. Winners will be given valuable prizes.
Application forms can be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to: The Secretary, Organising Committee COSLAM, No. 8/22, Kotte Road, Pita Kotte.Pre-competition seminars have been held in Puttalam, Hambantota, Kandy, Akbar Town and Colombo to assist the competitors who intend to participate in the competitions.
The competition dates have been scheduled as follows:
Puttalam – Sunday October 2, 2016 at Zainab Junior Muslim School at 10 a.m.
Hambantotal – Sunday October 9 at Al Akhbar MMV – Malay Colony, Ambalantota at 10 a.m. and at Zahira National College at 1.30 p.m.
Kandy – Sunday October 16 at YMMA Building, Rajapihilla Mawatha at 10 a.m.
Akbar Town – Sunday October 23 at Zahira Maha Vidyalaya, Wijeyaba Mawatha, Akbar Town, Hunupitiya at 10 a.m.
Colombo – Sunday November 6 at Zahira College, Colombo 10 at 10 a.m.
On Hari Bahasa Melayu Ke-10 will be held in Colombo.
A Commemoration Meeting to mark the 127th Birth Anniversary of National Hero Al Haj Dr. T. B. Jayah will also be held on that day.
