‘Aaron’s Bungalow’: World of its own for travellers
Enjoy peaceful holiday, with lush green surroundings and picturesque mountains at the ‘Aaron’s Bungalow ‘, Thampana, Mawathagama.
‘Home Stay’ concept is a widely accepted guest accommodation around the world, where guests stay in private houses and becoming part of the resident family for a few days, dining with the hosts and joining in their lifestyle. ‘Aaron’s Bungalow’ is a very close to this concept. Though the owners are not at the Bungalow, husband and wife caretaker couple Chandrika and Wimalarathne are more than a host to its visitors.
Situated in a 15 acre undisturbed land of ‘off the beaten track’, ‘Aaron’s Bongalow’ located at the centre of property. The bungalow which is just one km from the Kandy-Kurunegala main road is located in an area full of attractive sceneries, abandoned tea estates and a climate different comparing with the Kurunegala city.
With 4 delightful bedrooms with attached bathrooms and open areas will provide accommodation for 20 adults. A roof top to explore the nature, surround sound system, BBQ and for many activities.
Though narrow road to the bungalow is motorable, be prepared for a long and rustic drive on an unmade road. A van or 4WD vehicle is recommended.Chandrika and Wimalarathne seek to provide a unique experience for discerning travellers, who wish to sample a slice of life in the rugged mid-country of Sri Lanka, while immersing them in a typically Sri Lankan ambience.
‘Guests are invited to become a part of Bungalow as we always offer the full bungalow to the group of 10 to 15 holiday makers. They are invited to dining together, taking walks through the vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, durian, pepper and other crops on the land, negotiating the unique Boulder Path and spending time in the Soaking Pool’ said Oscar Rodrigo, the Manager of the property, who operates from its Colombo office. Two of the three rooms available for visitors’ use have en-suite baths and the third has a large private bathroom. All rooms have basic household amenities including a fan and modern bathroom facilities. The common areas are spacious and one of the two sitting rooms is equipped with a stereo and television, though it is very seldom that guests use these devices, never seeming to have enough time to enjoy the natural attractions. Walking distance from the bungalow you have Thampana reservoir, virgin forest with lots of fauna and flora and many places with historical value to explore. You can do rock climbing, hiking cycling, bird watching and many more.
This unique mid-country facility is a prime example of a diversified agricultural enterprise, providing visitors from around the globe an opportunity to observe, at first hand, ecologically-sound agricultural practices in sylvan surroundings. The exotic food and fruit that come, literally, out of the garden and onto the dinner plate is a normal practice of the Bungalow. Meals are available on request and are prepared in true Sri Lankan style, often utilising produce from the plantation and recipes that a hotel chef wouldn’t understand.
‘This is authentic home-cooking in the classical mould for the visitors from all over the world. They all enjoy traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and we never had any complaint’ Chandrika explained.
The rate for the bungalow is Rs 25,000/- per day without meals.
