A move to share the rich cinematic culture of South Korea, Korean Film Festival 2016 will be held from October 14 to 17 at National Film Corporation Theatre, Colombo 7.

Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Foundation in partnership with the National Film Corporation, this is the second consecutive year that the festival is taking place.

“This film festival is held at a time when there is a growing interest among the Sri Lankan public about Korea, its culture and people, triggered especially by K-pop and K-drama,” said Korean Ambassador, Chang Won-sam.

“I hope this film festival will successfully play a bridging role to bring the people of our two countries closer together, in spite of the barriers of language, culture and geographical distance,” the Ambassador said.

The festival will include four film falling to different genres such as drama and comedy.

The festival for the public will kick off with ‘How to steal a dog’ at 2 pm on October 15 and 16. Directed by KIM Sung-Ho, the film is released in 2014.

Ji-so is a 10-year old living with her mom and a little brother, Ji-sok in a pizza truck. With her dad out of contact after the pizza truck business went bankrupt and her mom lacking a sense of reality, Ji-so and her friend, Chae-rang decide to get a house on their own. They naively believe five thousand dollars can buy a house and Ji-so finds a missing dog poster with five thousand dollars reward. Now, their scheme is to find a rich dog, steal it and then return it back to its owner by pretending to have found it.

‘No breathing’ directed by CHO Yong-Sun will be screened at 5.30 pm on October 15.

Won-il used to be a promising swimmer like his champion swimmer father. After his father’s death from a swim competition, where he was doing his specialty called “no breathing”, his mother also passes away. Since then, he can never forgive his father and quits swimming for good. When he is being dropped out of school, his father’s longtime friend Jae-Suk drags him to get into a physical education high school to start swimming again. There he meets his long-ago rival, Woo-Sang who was always overshadowed by Won-il.

Romantic comedy ‘My love My bride’ directed by LIM Chan-sang will be screened at 5.30 pm on October 17. Young Min and Mi-young are a young couple who get married after graduating from college. Following the honeymoon period, they begin to bicker with each other. While waiting for her husband at a café one day, Mi-young bumps into her ex-boss.

A 2013 film ‘Born to sing’ directed by LEE Jong-pil will be screened at 5.30 pm on October 17.

While his wife, ‘Mi-ae’, works die-hard day and night, Bong-nam’ helps out around her hair salon and runs errands for a living in the country. His motto in life is Singing has to have soul and dreams of becoming a singer. When he hears the gateway to becoming a top singer, a singing auditions TV programme, Born to Sing will be held in his hometown, Bong-nam goes behind his wife’s back to audition and becomes the talk of the town among the older ladies.
