Cinnamon Air flight makes belly landing at BIA

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has launched an investigation into a mishap involving a Cinnamon Air domestic flight at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Friday.

On Friday, a Cinnamon Air flight had been on approach to land at the BIA after completing a training mission when the plane’s landing gear had apparently malfunctioned. The pilot had been forced to make a belly landing on the runway, resulting in the plane’s belly suffering minor damage.

When contacted, Romesh David, a Director of Cinnamon Air, confirmed the incident.

While the plane had developed landing gear problems, a SriLankan flight from Kuala Lumpur had also been on approach to land at the BIA. However, Air Traffic Control had contacted the flight and instructed the pilots to remain airborne while the damaged plane was removed from the runway.

CAA Additional Director General Parakrama Dissanayake told the Sunday Times they had received a complaint from the pilot of the said domestic flight regarding the incident. “Our officials have started a probe to find out what happened,” he stressed.

The flight landed 20 minutes later than scheduled.
